City Council Council President 1st Ward 2nd Ward 3rd Ward 4th Ward 5th Ward 6th Ward At Large At Large

At Large - Doug Versaw

Having been on City Council for over twenty-four years, Doug Versaw brings experience to his office. He has had the time to grasp the ins and outs of Mansfield City Government, and he has been involved in many of the positive changes that have occurred in Mansfield during these years.

With his status as a veteran Council Member, Versaw is still young at 60. He has a twenty-three year marriage, four grown children, and is finishing a thirty-eight year career at Therm-O-Disc. He is also a graduate of Ohio University's Class of 1969, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology.

Versaw has been involved in local government for over twenty-five years. He began working behind the scenes for the Mills campaign for Law Director in 1979. Soon afterward, he determined that he wanted to be more directly involved in governing the City of Mansfield. He made his first City Council run in 1981 and scored his first election in 1983. He spent the first six years as an "At-Large" member of council, represented the 1st Ward for the next eighteen years and now is back as Councilman-At-Large.

His main concern is "helping constituents with their problems." This entails real "grass roots" work, involving such basic worries as property valuations, safety, and security and city services. Versaw sees a particular pride in his community in the fact that the citizens of Mansfield strive to protect their homes and their neighborhoods. This is realized in many Neighborhood Watch organizations that hold frequent meetings and other active efforts at preserving safety and community pride.

Despite Versaw's experience as a council member, he works to stay on the cutting edge of community-council communication. It is that drive to stay in touch with the community and his community involvement that has enabled Versaw to hold his council seat for over two decades. Versaw serves as Chairman of The Street & Traffic Committee and a member of the Finance, Airport, Economic Development and Public Utilities Committees.
