Councilwoman at-Large, Ellen Haring, was elected to office for her first term in November of 2007. "I look forward to working with my fellow council members, the mayor, city officials, and the citizens of Mansfield to bring fresh and new ideas to our community."
Mrs. Haring is a life long resident of Richland County having been raised on a farm near Lucas. Farm life gave her an appreciation of nature and green spaces, conservation, and wise use of natural resources. She has resided in the city of Mansfield for the last 23 years with her husband, Ken, a retired businessman, and their son, Cameron, who currently attends graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
As a graduate of Ashland University, with a BS in Education, and as a former teacher, Mrs. Haring knows the value of education. “If we are to see wage growth, our community must be supportive and encouraging of higher education, job training and retraining, and graduating our children from high school with plans to pursue more education. Without advanced education and relevant job skills, we cannot attract higher paying jobs nor retain business. Our teachers are doing a great job, but it is up to us as individuals to rise to the challenge of higher education and the pursuit of a better quality of life."
On council, Mrs. Haring is chairman of the Economic Development and Safety Committees, vice-chairman of the Airport and Street Committees, and a member of the Utilities Committee. "I am committed to bringing new employment and wage growth to Mansfield. Our area is poised for development with many desirable features that will encourage businesses to locate here. As a leader of the Safety committee, I will support our police officers and firefighters who make daily sacrifices for our protection. It takes all of us working together to find the right solutions and implementing them in a way that positively affects us all."
Prior to her election to City Council, Mrs. Haring took pride in contributing back to the community by serving on many boards and as a member of many organizations. She currently serves as President of the Art Center and Malabar Farm Foundation. She is also a member of the Human Relations Committee, the Airport Commission, Historic Preservation Committee, United Way Allocations Committee, Predatory Lending Task Force, First Congregational Church and is a former member of the City Planning Commission and Mansfield City Schools levy campaign, as well as a school tutor.
Councilwoman Haring is committed to giving everyone in Mansfield a voice in their city government.
