Fire Training
Qualified Probationary firefighters must satisfactorily complete training and instruction
as prescribed by the State of Ohio. This involves classroom and field work in fire
fighting; pumps, hoses, nozzles, ladder logistics, salvage and other aspects important to
the everyday life of a firefighter.
Officers and members of the
Mansfield Fire Department Training Bureau will educate the recruit in the areas of
prevention, early detection, code enforcement, alarm systems, automatic and manual fire
suppression systems, and efficient operation of trucks and equipment, as well as general
rules and regulations.
Training, assistance and ongoing
performance evaluations are part of the probationary period.
Special certification may be
required in certain specialized areas such as arson investigation, emergency medical
treatment and hazardous materials response.
Special Interest Areas

Department. After completing training, candidates will participate in firefighting, safety
inspections, and emergency medical service. A firefighter may also be chosen to specialize
in one of these areas or in arson investigation.

emergencies. All EMS personnel must meet state requirements and pass a state certification

questioning, and applicable laws in addition to state required basic training and
instruction.
Hazardous Materials
