Litter Control
Litter Facts
Generally, people tend
to litter in areas or neighborhoods that are a safe distance from their own home. This
includes areas such as beaches and park. This behavior relates back to feeling no sense of
ownership - also, the attitude that "people are paid to clean up, so my littering is
keeping someone on the job."
Areas that have
accumulated large amounts of litter create an atmosphere where people feel more
comfortable, less guilty and less responsible for littering. The attitude is usually of
"everyone else does it."
Seven Sources of
Litter are:
Household garbage at
curbside.
Dumpsters used by
businesses.
Loading docks.
Construction and
demolition sites.
Uuncovered trucks'.
Motorists.
Pedestrians.
