Litter Control
Program Overview
The Mansfield Litter
Prevention & Recycling Program offers many different programs and special events
throughout the year. In every program offered through our office, there is an opportunity
for you to be a part of joining us in "Stepping Forward Together... For Future
Generations."
Programs offered by our
office include, but are not limited to:
Awareness
Mansfield Litter
Prevention & Recycling sponsors and works in collaboration with various organizations
and businesses to offer numerous programs and special events throughout the year. These
include the Annual Earth Stewardship Celebration, Arbor Day,
Clean Your Files Day, America Recycles Day, Use Less Stuff
Day, and the White Glove Club.
Is your business,
church or organization interested in increasing your recycling efforts, beautifying your
community, learning more about protecting the environment, or just learning what services
are available to the community? We will tailor any topic to meet your needs.
The Litter Prevention
office produces a bi-yearly newsletter. If you wish to be added to the mailing list for
upcoming events and ideas, please e-mail or call and you will be added to our mailing
list.
Education
Education is a major
component at Mansfield Litter Prevention & Recycling. The program puts a large
emphasis on implementing yearly activities within school systems for students of all ages.
The program coordinator visits all fourth grade classes in the Mansfield City School
System. Through discussion and hands on activities, students learn the importance of
recycling, litter prevention and develop an awareness of solid waste issues and what they
can do to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills.
The Annual Design a T-shirt Contest is sponsored in the fall of each
year. Students are asked to create a graphic design to be placed on a T-shirt about litter
prevention, recycling or buy recycled. If you would like an entry form sent to you in the
fall, call our office and you will be placed on our mailing list. Or click on the link
above, and follow the links.
The office also
collaborates with the Richland County Regional Solid Waste Management Authority in
co-sponsoring teacher workshops designed for proficiency standards and the Environmental
Challenge for middle school students.
A resource library with
videos and books are available to students and teachers. Staff is also available to come
into classrooms and conduct hands-on activities to assist the teachers in meeting their
classroom objectives.
