Annual Earth Stewardship Celebration

Take Pride, Ohio! Month
Citizens Invited to Participate

The Ohio Air National Guard 179th Airlift Wing helps clean up on Earth Stewardship day. Each spring, the Mansfield Litter Prevention & Recycling Program, joins with agencies, that form the Earth Stewardship Steering Committee. A month long Earth Stewardship Celebration throughout the Mansfield/Richland County area is sponsored through the committee's efforts.

April marks the beginning of spring with the commemoration of Earth Day, Arbor Day, and Soil Stewardship Week. These events serve as a reminder that the Earth provides the resources necessary for us to live. Just as spring symbolizes a sense of renewal. the Earth Stewardship Steering Committee is pleased to provide the residents of the Mansfield/Richland County Area the opportunity to renew their commitment to caring for the Earth and the community in which they live, by participating in the Annual Earth Stewardship Celebration.

During the month of April, the Earth Stewardship Committee invites area groups, businesses, churches, schools, and individuals to participate in the celebration by conducting a litter clean up and/or beautification projects. Areas selected can include, but are not limited to, parks, neighborhood block areas, right of ways, businesses and schools. You can even take a leadership role and partner with a school for a project. Children help to clean up Central Park on Earth Stewardship Day.

All participating groups/organizations get to choose the area where they wish to complete their project. Collection bags and disposal of litter is provided by the Litter Prevention Program to all that participate. Each organization is spotlighted in a two-stage newspaper collage and all participants and their families are invited to join a celebration of their efforts in May.

Everyone met at the Mansfield Carousel before the Cleanup started. Members of the steering committee for the year 2001 were: Kingwood Center, Lutheran Brotherhood, Madison Jr. High, City of Mansfield Litter Prevention & Recycling, Mansfield/Richland County Health Department, Ohio Air National Guard - 179th Airlift Wing, Richland County Solid Waste Management Authority, and Richland Soil & Water Conservation District.
