Neighborhood Youth Corps
Program
Dear Parents and
Youth:
The City of
Mansfield Neighborhood Youth Corps is proud to share this information about the Youth
Employment Program with you in mind. We are accepting applications for in-school and
out-of-school youth between fourteen and twenty-one years old who are interested in work
experience, job training and educational programming. The Neighborhood Youth Corps is a
department of the City of Mansfield, funded primarily by the Job Training and Partnership
Act, working in conjunction with the Private Industry Council. A brief description of the
various work and educational programs that are offered are located at this website: Let
the City of Mansfield Neighborhood Youth Corps assist you in:
Classroom Training -
Tutoring for Credit
- Tutoring for students
in need of high school credit for promotion or graduation.
- Tutoring for
remediation assistance in basic skill development and to eliminate recidivism during the
summer months.
- GED Preparation.
- CCP Program
(Comprehensive Competency Program) - Individual computerized education programming
designed to improve basic skills.
- PALS Program
(Principle of the Alphabet Literacy System) - Computerized reading program to improve
adult and adolescent reading skills.
- Prevent was designed
for at risk youth in grades 7 - 9 in need of educational assistance. Prevent is offered
during the school year as a component of the Alternative Education Array Program of the
Mansfield City Schools
- One Stop! is designed
to assist adult and youth participants in self-assessments of employability strengths and
barriers; career and training exploration; self-directed job search and linkages to other
local social service agencies.
- Teen Parenting
Program - designed to increase parental knowledge and skills related to parent-child
interaction. The program provides holistic case management services to help reduce the
risk of teen pregnancy or subsequent teen pregnancies, increase self-referrals and
utilizes family-related support services.
- Teen Pregnancy
Prevention.
- School-to Work -
Focuses on youth who lack a high school diploma and are not currently in school.
GED preparation is coupled with basic computer skill training, leading to employment
and/or enrollment in post secondary education.
- Opportunities
Unlimited is designed for at risk youth at the high school level.
- Ohio Early Start
Services provides at risk children ages 0-3 services that include, but are not limited to,
parent support, parent education, service coordination, and referrals.
- Safekeeping Project -
funded by Richland County Foundation
- North Central State
College (NCSC) Tech Prep
Youth Program
Eligibility:
- 14 to 21 years of age
and proof of residence
- Birth certificate and
income verification
- Social security card
and picture ID
