Miscellaneous Street Programs - 2000

Guard Rail Repairs

In 2000, it was necessary to make repairs and/or arrangements for contractors to repair guard rails due to accidents on Lanz Road, St. Rt. 30, Bowman Street and the dead end of Charwood Road (new installation).

Grass and Weed Control

All state route fields and islands, within the city limits, along with City right-of-ways, road sides, guard rails and street fronts at vacated lots were mowed. Miscellaneous control was used on additional areas.

Street Cleaning

Two complete sweeps were made around the entire City as well as focusing on the streetscape/downtown area, parades, and festivals. Night sweeping was done on streets too busy to be swept during the day.

Streetscape Maintenance

  • Removed tree grates.
  • Painted curbs.
  • Painted and repaired downtown benches, tables and chairs.
  • Set up and removed Christmas greenery, decorations and lights.
  • Maintained and stored United Way sign at Central Park.
  • Concrete repairs were made to 5 downtown brick driveway approaches.
  • New electrical services were installed at Central Park and Fourth/Main Streets to service any type of event held at these locations. Service includes: electrical vaults, cable/conduit, outlets and service panels at both locations.
  • Central Park kiosk repairs included new paint, new window wooden bulletin boards and removal of mount frames (no longer phones).
  • Purchased new metal trash receptacles for the streetscape area
  • Replaced all 8 Central Park District signs:

Asphalt Patch Repairs

This program is underway daily, year round, weather permitting. In 2000, 56.71 tons of high performance Cold Patch material was applied to City streets during winter months. Another 422.12 tons of Hot Patch material along with 95 gallons of Kold Flow material was used to make repairs during the summer months. All asphalt street opening repairs were also completed.

Crack Seal Maintenance

During the summer of 2000, this program was resumed, using the 1995 Resurfacing List of streets to be done. The crew applied 402  lbs. of material to 32 streets.

Sanitation Pick Up

The Street Division is responsible for trash pick up for City owned buildings. Pick up is provided at 17 locations, 2 locations are three times per week, all others are picked up once per week.

Clean-Ups/Board-Ups

112 clean-ups were completed for 2000, totalling $13,826.10 for man hours and equipment. Codes and Permits Department paid for the disposal cost, which totaled $7,296.67, making the grand total $21,122.77. 15 Board-ups were completed totalling $2,251.53 for man hours, equipment, and materials.

State Route Maintenance

The City of Mansfield has seven State Routes (St. Rt. 13, 30, 309, 39, 430,  & 545) that run through the City limits. Maintenance performed on these routes in 2000 included:

  • Cleaned bridges and walk ways

  • Removed loose concrete from bridges

  • Cleaned concrete islands and ramps

  • Patched pavement surface cracks

  • Maintained and repaired glare screen

  • Made repairs to guard rails

  • Cut weeds and applied herbicide to guard rails and cat tail areas

  • Mowing of fields

  • Removed dead trees and brush

  • Patrol for litter weekly

  • Painted aerial speed marks

  • Repaired lighting to signs on St. Rt. 30, 13, 39, and 309.

  • Snow/Ice control

  • Planted flowers and landscaping around "Reason for all Seasons"  welcome sign

  • Removed rocks, brush and debris on St. Rt. 30 between St. Rt. 545 and Fifth Avenue.

  • Planted wildflower area on St. Rt. 13 at S. Main Street entrance ramp.
