Tree Maintenance Summary 2000

During 2000, the Street Department planted 9 trees, trimmed 35 trees, completed 86 brush clean ups, removed 75 trees and 10 stumps. Total costs for the tree maintenance in 2000 was $38,816.35.

Arbor Day Celebration

The City and the Shade tree Commission planted nine trees in honor of Arbor Day at the following locations: (2) Pink Spires and Crabapple near the railroad tracks across from the Sanitary Products Corporation; (3) Prairie Fire, Sargent Tine and Redbud Crabapple at 606 North Main Street, New Kokosing Building; (1) Fort McNair Buckeye at the North Main Street and North Diamond Street Island; (2) Prairie Fire and Crabapple at Minnich Manufacturing, 227 North Main Street; and (1) Indian Magic Crabapple on the northwest corner of Sixth Street and Main Street.

TREE CITY USA AWARD 2000

In the Spring of 2000 the City of Mansfield was awarded the "Tree City USA" Sixth Year Award.

Added improvements to the 2000 Tree Maintenance Program include:

  • A second limb chipper was purchased through the Ohio Department Of Transportation Co-op Purchasing Program.

  • A new bucket truck was purchased with 1999 funds.

Special Projects Included:

  • Removed brush, dead and leaning trees on Millsboro Road from Marion Avenue to Trimble Road.

  • Removed brush, dead and leaning trees on Marion Avenue at the Art Center.

  • Continued to remove brush and small trees from alley right-of-ways.

  • Removed dead tree at 600 W. Third Street Clinic.

  • Removed brush and trees from the right-of-way on Ridgewood Boulevard.

  • Made City wide "Storm" clean ups on June 14, 15 & 19th, 2000 and on August 7th, 8th & 9th, 2000
