City of Mansfield Water Treatment Plant

Water Sources

Clear Fork Reservoir:

  • 3.5 billion gallons
  • Daily maximum yield:
    - 25 million gallons

10 Wells:

  • Daily maximum yield
    - 10 million gallons

Average Daily Pumpage:

  • 10.0 million gallons

Average Daily Blend:

  • 70% surface water (from the Clear Fork Reservoir)
  • 30% well water

Treatment

  • Pre-chlorination for algae and bacteria oxidation
  • Powdered activated carbon for taste and odor control
  • Alum polymer blended coagulant for coagulation
  • Flocculation for mixing
  • Sediment for settling
  • Rapid sand filtration
  • Post-chlorination for disinfections
  • Sodium hydroxide addition for stabilization
  • Corrosion inhibitor addition for continued stabilization in the distribution system.

Power

The City of Mansfield purchases 69,000 volt power from Ohio Edison. The City owns and maintains power lines, poles and substations to Clear Fork Reservoir, wells and booster pumps.

Finished Water Storage

  • Plant - 1 million gallons
  • Woodland Reservoir (under ground concrete vault) - 12 million gallons
  • Straub Elevated Tank - 2 million gallons
  • Shaker Elevated Tank - 500,000 gallons

System Control

  • Wonderware software computer operated plant with radio remote telemetry to all sites. EPA approved corrosion control plan.
  • EPA approved wellhead protection plan.
  • EPA approved chemical and bacteriological laboratory.

Plant has not exceeded any maximum allowable EPA limits for metals, trihalomethanes, volatile organic chemicals, asbestos, nitrates, and bacteriological contaminants.
